Man (34) hijacked and kidnapped by bogus cops

A 34-year-old man was hijacked and kidnapped, on Friday, April 10, after he was pulled over by bogus cops in Denne Road.

The man, who does not want to be named, said he was driving when a car behind him flashed its lights.

“I didn’t respond to it, but when I saw flashing blue lights, from what I thought was a police vehicle, I pulled over,” said the man.

“I opened my window, thinking it was the police. After I greeted the person who approached me, he grabbed the keys from the ignition.

“He unlocked my doors and that’s when I noticed he wasn’t alone.

“His accomplice pointed a firearm at me,” said the man.

The victim explained that the men, who he thought were cops, wore civilian clothes and drove a brown Hyundai.

The man was pulled from his car and forced onto the Hyundai’s backseat.

The hijackers then put a cap over his eyes and ordered him to keep quiet and stay down.

After they drove around for a while, the victim was dropped off at Kliprivier, Alberton.

The victim was not injured.

“After this incident, I don’t think I will ever be able to stop for police again,” said the man.

A case has been opened at the Brakpan Police Station.

Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander, said that if motorists suspect they are being pulled over by bogus cops, they can do the following:

  • Acknowledge that you saw them and indicate that they should follow you.
  • Put on your hazards and drive to the nearest police station or public place.
