Justice served

The following cases were recently finalised in the Brakpan Regional Court:

* Bongamusa Philani Mtshila (21) was found guilty of armed robbery and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

Mtshila was one of two men who robbed the Engen Garage, near Carnival City, on January 20, 2014.

The pair, one of whom was armed with a firearm, robbed the business at about 1.10am, and stole cash, cellphones, cigarettes and airtime valued at R50 000.

The investigating officer was Det WO Umgau Radebe.

* Richmond Shabangu (27), Sipho Alfred Masinga (38) and Vusi Oupa Kuekuana (38) were found guilty of motor vehicle theft.

The trio were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, of which four years were suspended for five years.

The men were caught red handed stealing a vehicle from an address along Derby Avenue, on January 16, 2014.

Tools used to break into cars were also found in their possession.

The investigating officer was Det Const Selwyn Pieterse.

* Zweli Nkosi (25) was found guilty of armed robbery.

He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, of which two years were suspended for five years.

Nkosi, and an accomplice, robbed a taxi driver of his cellphone and R280, on May 10, 2014.

The taxi driver had stopped along Ergo Road at about 3.30pm, when he was approached by two men armed with weapons.

They took his cellphone and cash, and fled the scene.

A police vehicle in the vicinity was alerted to the robbery and the pair were arrested, and a firearm was seized.

The other man will appear in the Tsakane Magistrates Court on February 17.

The investigating officer was Det Const Webster Shabalala.
