‘Don’t turn a blind eye to crime’

Festive season message from Brakpan Police station commander, Brig Johannes Monyathele:

As we face the beginning of the New Year, our thoughts go back to nearly a year ago, when we were supposed to be filled with joy, but experienced a dark Christmas.

An innocent, four-year-old girl, Jasmin-Lee Pretorius, was brutally murdered.

Not only was it a huge shock to the community and experienced members of the police, but to the whole world.

In 2014, we were blessed by our Heavenly Father and no police members lost their lives.

On behalf of management and members of the Brakpan SAPS, we thank the community for their cooperation throughout the year in helping to combat crime, in order to make Brakpan a better place in which to live and work.

We wish all Brakpan residents a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year, may God keep and guide you through the festive season.

To everyone who will be leaving the province for the holidays, we wish you a safe journey — be alert and may God keep you all safe on the road.

Drive safely, refrain from drinking and driving and do not turn a blind eye to crime; please report it.

The Brakpan SAPS will leave no stone unturned to protect the community and their property, not only during the festive season, but every day.

To the criminals, we want to send out a strong message: you can run, but you cannot hide.

No crime, no matter how big or small, will be tolerated.

We are looking forward to spending a sunny, crime-free Christmas this year and will do everything in our power to achieve it.
