Cement fraudsters’ plan comes unstuck

Two foreign nationals were arrested by the EMPD on Tuesday afternoon, last week, after they procured R40 000 worth of cement on an account not belonging to them.

Members from the EMPD’s Intervention Unit acted swiftly after receiving a tip-off that two men in an articulated truck had just fraudulently bought cement from the Afrisam depot, along Denne Road.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, the EMPD members cornered the truck along Springs Road, at about 3.30pm.

“Apparently, the suspects illegally obtained details of another company’s account, which they then used to buy 680 50kg bags of cement,” he said

The duo, a Malawian and a Mozambican, both in their 30s, were charged with possession of stolen property and the cement was confiscated.

The 680 bags of cement, worth R40 000, were purchased on an account not belonging to the two men.
