Dalview man stabbed with grisly homemade weapon

A 30-year-old Dalview man is recovering in hospital after surviving a brutal attack at the hands of a family member.

The man’s half-brother (24), who faces charged of attempted murder and being in possession of a dangerous weapon, is alleged to have repeatedly stabbed him with a knife, as well as a homemade weapon.

The weapon, which is constructed from steel, resembles a gruesome medieval torture device.

The incident took place at an address along Gerrit Maritz Street, on Wednesday, September 17.

“Brakpan police were called to the scene at about 7am, where, it is alleged, a man had been stabbed with a sharp object by his half-brother,” said Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander.

“The victim walked from the residence in Dalview to the Life Dalview Clinic, where he was stabilised and transferred to the Far East Rand Hospital in a critical condition.

“He sustained several stab wounds to his back and neck.”

Joubert told the Herald that the suspect was arrested and that the weapon, as well as a knife, were seized.

“It is also alleged that the suspect intended to kill the victim’s wife and children,” added Joubert.

The accused made his second appearance in the Brakpan Magistrates Court on Monday and the case was postponed to tomorrow (Friday), for a formal bail application.
