Speedster ‘flying’ to release his pigeons ends up behind bars

A male driver in a Mitsubishi SUV was arrested on Tuesday morning, for travelling at 142km/h in a 80km/h zone.

The man, who claimed he was in a hurry because he needed to release his pigeons, was arrested just after 6am, along Heidelberg Road, between LJ Steyn and Geluksdal roads.

Two other motorists were also arrested, for travelling at 136km/h and 145km/h.

“All three speedsters were charged at the Tsakane Police Station, for reckless and negligent driving, and are expected to appear in the Brakpan Magistrates Court soon,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

On Saturday, last week, a record 21 drivers were arrested for speeding along Heidelberg Road.

“A 20-year-old, who cited his reason for speeding as being late for work, was clocked travelling at 149km/h,” said Kgasago.

“The rest registered speeds of between 115km/h and 140km/h and were all charged with reckless and negligent driving at the Brakpan Police Station.”
