Grandad arrested for housebreaking

A 61-year-old grandfather and a 27-year-old man were arrested for housebreaking, by members of the EMPD's Equestrian Unit, on Saturday, last week.

The men were arrested at an address in the Brakpan CBD, after they were positively linked to a case of housebreaking that took place in Dalview, last week.

According to information received from Brakpan police, the 27-year-old man had previously lived at the Hendrik Potgieter Street address, along with its current occupants.

He was reportedly asked to move out about a month ago.

It is alleged that the man and his elderly friend broke into the house on Thursday afternoon and stole numerous items, including a television set, laptop and camera.

They later pawned these goods at a second-hand shop in Boksburg.

A neighbour spotted the duo and was able to provide an accurate description, which led to the occupants suspecting their former house-mate.

They were arrested less than two days later.

They appeared briefly in the Brakpan Magistrates Court on Monday and were released on bail, as they had no other cases pending against them.

No further information was available at the time of going to press.
