Assault cases skyrocket

Senseless violence reigned in Brakpan over the past weekend, and 12 cases of assault were opened at the Brakpan Police Station.

Amongst these were two cases of assault with the purpose of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

One of these incidents took place at an address in Wenden Avenue, on Saturday, when a woman was stabbed several times with a screwdriver by her boyfriend.

According to information received from Brakpan police, the woman had been bathing at about 7pm, when the man stormed into the bathroom and claimed she had been “taking too long”.

He stabbed her and threatened to kill her.

The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.

While the majority of the incidents were domestic disputes, others included a punch-up at a cellphone shop over an alleged broken cellphone, and a brawl at a tavern over missing bottles of beer.
