Keep your children safe

If anything had to happen, or if we were in an accident, I know my kids are safe.

As a parent, I need to take the responsibility for my kids and make sure they are safe every day, regardless of whether they are in the car, the swimming pool, or just playing outdoors.

I drive from Brakpan to Benoni every day for about an hour to get where I need to be, and I see so many children in cars who are not strapped in.

I saw a woman once, with a toddler of about two years old standing on the front seat while she was driving.

I know that not everybody can afford a car seat, but then strap your children in the back with the safety belt.

If that woman had to suddenly brake her child would have been killed.

More recently, on January 28, along Snake Road, I saw a boy (about eight years old) sitting on the back of a bakkie and leaning over to talk to his dad as he drove.

It is always busy on Snake Road and if that boy had to fall off and get hit by another car, who would be blamed for that?

People that cannot take care of their kids like they should, should not have kids at all.

People do not care how they drive on the road and do not care about the people in the car next to them — even if you do have a ‘children or baby on board’ sign on your car.

You have to think for that person, yourself and for the safety of your family.

Please parents take care of your kids.

Remember that they only have one life and they look to you to keep them safe.
