Great train race promises to be a spectacle.
Don’t miss this year’s Heidelberg Great Train Race on September 30.
The Heidelberg Great Train Race in its fifth year of existence. The festivities will kick off with the welcoming of the luxurious Rovos Rail Steam Train at the Heidelberg Railway Station.
The steam train will be coming all the way from Pretoria to arrive at 09:00.
Vintage cars and motorcycles will be at the station to provide a unique photo opportunity on the platform with the Rovos steam locomotive.
From the station, a parade of rare and unique vintage cars and motorcycles will depart for an hour-long heritage tour through Heidelberg.
Great Train Race visitors and spectators will then make their way to the Heidelberg Airfield where a host of nostalgic and exciting activities and exhibitions awaits.
Entry fee for adults is R50 and for R30 for learners.
Once inside the venue you can choose from a variety of activities, including:
• Go for a helicopter ride
• Go for a ride in the oldest electric car dating back to 1923
• Go for a ride on a miniature steam train
• See aerial displays by the Puma Harvard and Goodyear Eagles
• Visit a variety of stalls
• Choose something to eat from food vendors
• See all the vintage cars, motorcycles and aircrafts from up close with great photographic opportunities
• Visit the beer tent and listen to live music by the band Sixty Shades of Grey
A thrilling addition to this year’s Great Train Race is the vintage motorcycle race that will take place on a dirt track in front of the beer garden.
The Heidelberg Great Train Race is a celebration of vintage transportation and has inspired young and old for the past four years to treasure history in a fast-moving world that stems from it.
