Women targeted as house robberies spike

Two house robberies reported in two days in Brakpan.

A Sunair Park woman was tied up during a robbery at her Roywen Street home on Tuesday.

According to Brakpan police, the woman was home alone when a man gained access to the property at around 11:00.

He threatened her with a firearm and told her to be quiet. The intruder tied the victim up and left her in a bedroom.

Jewellery, a TV, a gaming console and other valuables were stolen, along with an Isuzu bakkie. The bakkie was recovered partially stripped.

House robbers were at it again the following day and tricked a domestic worker into allowing them into her employer’s home along Devon Street in Dalview.

Two men in a white bakkie arrived at the address at around 11:40 and told the victim they were there to provide a quotation.

When she said that her employer had not mentioned any such arrangement, they told her they would call her employer to confirm.

They then instructed the victim to open the gate and lock the dogs away so they could get to work. The victim led them into the house and the men grabbed her once they reached the dining room.

They tied her hands and feet, and demanded jewellery. The pair searched the house and fled shortly afterwards.

The victim managed to untie herself and alerted her employer. Goods stolen from the house included two TVs and a radio.
