Non-compliant liquor outlets closed as law enforcement clamps down

The operation also yielded six arrests.

A law enforcement operation focusing on business compliance, with an emphasis on liquor outlets, was conducted last Thursday in the Brakpan CBD.

The operation was carried out by members of the Brakpan SAPS and EMPD, and officials from home affairs and the health department.

Liquor outlets and street vendors along Wenden Avenue were checked during an early morning raid.

“Owners of the businesses were requested to produce permits and the management structure of the business was examined.

“Residential and working permits of employees were inspected, and cleanliness and health were also under scrutiny,” said Brakpan SAPS Sector 1 manager Constable Audrey Buthelezi.

Five liquor outlets were inspected, of which two were closed due to non-compliance relating to health and liquor laws.

“Penalties amounting to R4 000 were issued to two businesses.

“Six illegal immigrants were arrested and detained at the Brakpan Police Station and one illegal street vendor was removed and penalised,” said Buthelezi.

SAPS reiterated their warning to business owners to operate within the confines of the law.

“The hands of the law have become tighter and no stone will be left unturned,” cautioned Buthelezi.

“Business owners must rather do the right thing because the SAPS will be conducting regular operations.”
