Many hands make light work

Community clean-up efforts are thriving in Brakpan.

Community spirit is alive and well in Brakpan as residents take it upon themselves to make a difference in their neighbourhoods.

Over the last week, various community members have been in action tackling overgrown and unkempt open spaces or heeding calls for assistance.

On Friday afternoon, members from Community Emergency Response Services (CERS) assisted the fire department to clear branches of a tree that had fallen on Athlone Avenue.

Huntingdon resident Clif Jacobs, with the help of some of his workers, and Shaun Klinkenberg cleaned up the area near the Huntingdon entrance on Voortrekker Road On Sunday.

The 42-year-old has done this several times and also tries to maintain the park inside Huntingdon, where the grass is overgrown and threatens to attract criminal elements.

Jacobs, who does this maintenance at his own cost, is of the opinion that more residents should get involved to clean up their neighbourhoods.
