Weekend crime round-up
An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from October 7 to 9.
The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:
Friday – Two men travelling in an unidentified white vehicle robbed a woman of cash at the corner of Escombe Avenue and Elliot Road at about 11:00.
The car pulled up next to the victim as she stood on the roadside and the man in the passenger seat climbed out and pointed a gun at her. After taking the victim’s money, the gunman returned to the car and the pair drove off.
• A man was robbed of his cellphone and bank card along Stoffberg Avenue. The victim, who was on his way to catch a taxi after finishing work, was approached by two men at around 12:40. They threatened him with a firearm and demanded his belongings.
• A vehicle parked at an address along Victoria Avenue was stripped of its battery.
Saturday – Two incidents of burglary were reported at a Dalpark hotel. A housekeeper discovered a room had been broken into and a TV stolen. Entry was gained through the sliding doors.
In the second incident, a couple staying at the hotel was awakened by an intruder in their room at 02:28. The burglar used a crowbar to gain entry through the sliding door. He fled with the couple’s camera.
Sunday – No priority cases were reported at the time of publication.
