Tip-off leads to recovery of stolen vehicle

Driver in cuffs after community member spots stolen Ford Ranger.

A 32-year-old Vosloorus man was arrested in Brakpan on Thursday after he was found in possession of a stolen bakkie.

Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Captain Pearl van Staad explained members of the Ekurhuleni District Zone 2 trio operational team were conducting patrol duties in town when they received a tip-off from a community member about a stolen Ford Ranger.

“The members responded swiftly and the vehicle was spotted. Members proceeded to test the registration, which resulted in no ownership,” she said.

“This created great suspicion. They found a number plate on the back seat which matched the bakkie.”

A suspected fraudulent RC1 form (ownership certificate) and a set of registration numbers were recovered from the vehicle. The driver was detained at Brakpan SAPS.

“Ekurhuleni task team and all stakeholders involved left no stone unturned,” said van Staad.

The team was assisted by personnel from security companies. Acting Brakpan SAPS station commander Lieutenant Colonel Anneline Naude applauded all for a sterling job.
