Teen nabbed in connection with murder case

Two arrested and stolen items recovered in Hamilton Avenue murder investigation.

An 18-year-old high school learner is one of two individuals who has been arrested in connection with the murder of a Brakpan man.

The body of the victim was found at his Hamilton Avenue property on September 25 following a house robbery. As reported by the Brakpan Herald, the victim suffered multiple injuries to his head and upper body.

His white Nissan Navara bakkie was stolen along with garden tools, a lawnmower, compressor, generator, cellphone, house keys and other items.

According to Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Captain Pearl van Staad, members of the Ekurhuleni operational task team, Brakpan SAPS crime prevention and EMPD community liaison unit worked tirelessly on the day to track the bakkie.

“After long observations, members swiftly entered a house in Tsakani where they found the vehicle with a 45-year-old man. He was detained at Tsakani SAPS,” she said.

“Their hard work didn’t stop there and they proceeded to another address in Tsakani on September 28 in the early hours of the morning.

“Members left no stone unturned, leading them to the second suspect. The members waited patiently. Then when the suspect (18) was spotted, the plan was immediately executed and the suspect was arrested.

“The discovery of the second suspect led the team to an address in Langaville where they recovered the lawnmower that was taken from the scene.

“The suspect further took the members to his house in Tsakani where the clothes he wore during the commission of the crime were confiscated.

“He then finally led the team to the last address where a bush cutter was recovered, which was also taken from the scene. The suspect was later detained at Brakpan SAPS.”

Van Staad told the Herald the teenager is a Grade 11 learner. Brakpan SAPS station commander Brigadier Fredl Jonck applauded the members for a job well done.
