Getting to know Jessy Naicker.

Jessy Naicker (59) is a well-involved member of the Brakpan CPF. He is married to Kribashini Naicker (49).

They live in Dalpark with their son Priyen, two daughters Priyanka and Prishka, son-in-law Rafael, grandson Alessio, and his cousin Ashaylin.

When did you join the CPF?
Officially on May 7, but we initially started the Dalpark 9 and 11 patrol group on March 9.

What made you decide to get involved?
In November 2016 my wife, daughter and two of my daughter’s friends were at home when we had a home invasion.

Five armed men robbed us of most of our priceless assets and also threatened to rape my wife and daughter. My family is still traumatised and I will not want to see any other family go through the same ordeal.

What are your duties as a member of the CPF?
My duties involve patrolling areas like Leachville, Dalpark 6, Dalpark 9 and Dalpark 11. I am in charge of patrollers in the Brakpan region, as I have been selected as the exco patroller officer. I respond to security-related calls, engage in community meetings and get involved in charity work in Brakpan.

What would you say is the solution to the crime problem in South Africa?
Our law system needs to be adjusted so that criminals will be taught a lesson. Nowadays, criminals have all the rights.

Why is it important that there is a well-functioning CPF in the town?
This will enable an excellent working relationship with SAPS. This will also assist in bringing the crime rate down.

The functioning of the CPF will also be visible in the community and the CPF will have a better and more healthy working relationship with the community.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Doing charity work for the community.

If you could retire anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Most definitely in my motherland, India. I have visited India three times and yes it is a beautiful and fun-loving country to live in.

If you had to eat one dish for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Vegetable biryani.
