Volunteers bring change to play area

Park is now clean and safe for children.

The Brakpan branch of the ACDP has vowed to restore beauty to the town one piece of litter at a time.

Eight members from the branch recently cleaned the park along Gardiner Avenue.

“The park looked like an easy conquest until the team had to pick up shards upon shards of broken glass in an area meant for children,” said Prudence Mabasa, Brakpan ACDP chairperson and regional media liaison officer.

“We need to ensure the safety of our parks and other recreational facilities are maintained. It was a wake-up call regarding how more needs to be done regularly.

“We need to take ownership of these beautiful spaces and make them safe for all. It will take everyone doing their bit – each one with a broom in hand and whistle in the mouth to bring sustainable change.”

Mabasa added when you do the work yourself, you understand what is meant by understaffed departments and lack of community audits.

“We applaud the staff that has been working to keep our communities clean and hope labour distribution will be equated to the level of need,” she said.

Residents are invited to be part of the change when the branch meets at the park for another clean-up on August 28.
