Animals confiscated from home of horrors

The Brakpan SPCA staff came to the rescue of a dozen animals living in appalling conditions.

June 22 was an emotional day for staff at the Brakpan SPCA after they removed 12 animals from a home in Anzac, found to be living in conditions not suitable for animals nor humans.

The house was visited after the society obtained a warrant in terms of the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962. Brakpan SAPS accompanied the SPCA team.

The SPCA staff were horrified by what they saw and stated no animal deserves to live in such conditions.

According to society, the animals were dirty and their fur matted. Many of them were terrified as they did not spend much time outside or had no interaction with many people.

Faeces was found in the living area, under the bed and in between clutter. A small puppy was found lifeless on the floor. Eleven dogs and one cat were confiscated.

A case of animal cruelty will be opened. The society thanked the concerned member of the public who brought the complaint to the SPCA’s attention.

They reiterated the importance of the public informing the SPCA about concerns regarding the welfare of animals in the Brakpan area.

Although the SPCA finds itself in desperate times with very few resources at its disposal, it assured residents it will find a way to react.

The Brakpan SPCA is the only animal organisation in the Brakpan area that has the authority to enforce laws regarding animals.
