A woman was fatally shot and a man injured during an altercation outside a Wenden Avenue tavern last Friday morning.
According to Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Captain Pearl van Staad, police were notified of the shooting at around 04:00 and were informed two people had been transported to the Far East Rand Hospital.
“On arrival at the hospital, police members were informed that one person had died and the other had been admitted,” she said.
“According to witnesses, a fight outside the tavern occurred and shots were fired.
“Three cartridges were found on the scene.”
The deceased was 30 years old. The other victim, a 35-year-old man, sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg.
“A suspect (35) was brought in by members of the community,” said van Staad, adding he was arrested and detained for murder and attempted murder.
The firearm used in the commission of the crime is yet to be recovered.
