Man nabbed with illegal guns and ammo

The arrest was made after police acted on information received from an anonymous source.

Following an anonymous tip-off, Brakpan police arrested a 33-year-old man last Wednesday for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The man was apprehended at an address along High Street.

“Upon SAPS’ arrival at the address, a male introduced himself as the owner of the premises. SAPS questioned the suspect, who was seemingly caught off-guard,” said Brakpan police spokesperson Capt Pearl van Staad.

The man was found in possession of two firearms, one of which had ammunition in the magazine.

Police also found one live round in a cupboard and a box containing 26 rounds.

“The suspect failed to explain where he obbtained the firearms so he was immediately arrested,” said van Staad.
Brakpan SAPS station commander Brig Fredl Jonck thanked the members involved for removing illegal firearms from the streets.

Community members are also encouraged to contact the police with information regarding criminal activities.
