Accident changes woman’s life

She suffered from severe depression and had a mild heart attack due to stress.

The life of a 43-year-old woman from Brakpan Central changed drastically when she was hit by a car in 2020.
Almost two years later, she is still looking for answers.

On November 6, Lindsay Bradnick was on her way to buy a few essentials at a shop along Prince George Avenue.

According to Bradnick, as she was crossing the road, the driver of a white car came down the wrong lane and hit her.

Her leg got caught in the wheel of the car and she immediately collapsed. With her leg bleeding profusely, she knew something was seriously wrong.

“He (the driver) stopped to apologise, got into his car and just rode off while I was lying there in unbearable pain,” said Bradnick.

Bystanders chased after the driver but could not apprehend him.

A man and his daughter immediately helped her. The man held her leg and tried to calm her while his daughter was on the phone with an ambulance.

Bradnick’s leg was broken and her ankle shattered. She was taken to hospital where she spent over a month and had to undergo several surgeries. The accident had a massive impact on Bradnick’s mental health.

“I used to be an independent woman but now I have to rely on others. The mental impact was much bigger than I thought it would be,” she said.

Bradnick suffered from severe depression and had a mild heart attack due to stress. She had to quit her job as a qualified chef as it requires standing for most of the day.

She is living with family members and needs their help daily. Today, her leg is still in a moon boot and she struggles to walk without crutches.

“I am extremely afraid to cross the street. I am fearful,” she said.

Bradnick would like to track down the witnesses of the accident, as well as the man and his daughter who helped her during her time in need.

“I never got the chance to say thank you, and that is what I would like to do,” she said.
