Remembering Alison Booysen

Leon described his wife as a loving and caring individual.

Brakpan-born professional dancer Alison Booysen (34) died on June 29.
Her family has confirmed she died of an acute asthma attack.
Alison had been dancing for 20 years and the Herald recently featured an article outlining her plans to partake in an International Dance Festival with her dancing partner and husband, Leon Wessels (40) (Couple heats up the dance floor).
The festival will take place in October.
Alison married Leon in 2015 but kept her maiden name for her credentials.
They first met in 2013 at a social dance class and have been dancing together since 2017.
Alison started dancing when she was 13 years old and went professional at the age of 20.
When she was 16 years old, she began teaching social Latin and ballroom to locals.
She attended Brenthurst Primary School and matriculated from Willowmoore High School.
In September 2009 she completed her first International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) Latin qualification, in 2010 obtained the IDTA Licentiate Latin Qualification and in 2015 her IDTA Fellow Latin Qualification.
She qualified in the IDTA Associate Ballroom and did courses in body correction and many more.
Leon described his wife as a loving and caring individual.
“She saw good in everyone and was without judgement.
“She had a contagious smile and laughter. Those who met her were touched by her presence, and she made a huge impact on their lives.
“She lived her life for God and dancing.
“Dancing was a lifestyle for her,” he said.
He added that her dreams for dancing will live on.
