Technicians working to restore power to Brakpan North

A restoration time is unclear as the extent of the damage will only be determined once the cable has been dug up.

Residents of Brakpan North have been without power since yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

A resident of Roux Street told the Herald the power went off at around 3.15pm.

The power outage was first thought to be load shedding, but reports later emerged of a damaged cable near the Sherwood Shopping Centre.

This has been confirmed by DA ward councillor for the area, Brandon Pretorius, who met with Eskom technicians.

“The information received is that the power outage is due to a cable that was damaged,” he said.

“The technician has assured me that they are attending to the matter but that it will take time to restore the fault.”

A restoration time is unclear as the extent of the damage will only be determined once the cable has been dug up.

According to Pretorius, the main issue is the construction work taking place in the vicinity of the shopping centre.

“The work taking place at the moment seems to be happening without wayleave,” he said.

“I will ask for a formal investigation but the technician has assured me that they will restore the feed as soon as they can.”
