Crime stats: Brakpan in top 30 for truck hijackings

In Gauteng, the Brakpan Police Station is featured on five of these top 30 station lists.

Police Minister Bheki Cele released the 2020/21 third quarter crime statistics on Friday.

The statistics are for the three months from October to December.

“The crime figures of the third quarter of the 2020/21 financial year demonstrate crimes committed between level one and adjusted level three lockdown, which kicked in on December 15,” said Cele.

“The statistics we will be releasing today expose some of the gaps that exist in policing certain crime categories.
“They also lay bare some of the policing shortcomings experienced in certain provinces.
“The statistics do not paint a good picture and forces us as the SAPS to dig deep and put the shoulder to the wheel.”

For each crime category, 30 police stations are identified where the most crimes are reported.
