The man was nabbed by members of the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit.

A man who claimed to be on his way to the shop to buy bread and milk during the early hours of Saturday morning was arrested after he was found in possession of mandrax tablets and a fake SAPS badge.

The man was nabbed by members of the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit along Hendrik Potgieter Road in Dalview.

“At 2.05am, a white Volkswagen Golf was stopped and searched by the team, and the 34-year old male driver was handcuffed,” said EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.

“Officers found four and a half mandrax tablets inside a match box, valued at R450.”

The man was also found in possession of a fake SAPS plastic badge glued to his wallet.

He was escorted to the Brakpan Police Station and charged with possession and possible dealing in an illicit substance.

“SAPS members are looking into the replica badge and will take it from there,” added Mokheseng.
