Two killed in suspected taxi-related violence

Occupants of a silver grey Nissan Murano stopped next to the bakkie and fired shots.

Two men were fatally shot in what is believed to be taxi-related violence in Brakpan on Tuesday.

Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS, told the Herald police were summoned to the scene along Elsburg Road around 2.45pm.

“On arrival, they found a white Toyota Hilux bakkie which had lost control and came to a standstill at the robot opposite Carnival City, with two males in their late 40s fatally wounded.

Van Staad explained that, according to witnesses, two occupants of a silver grey Nissan Murano stopped next to the bakkie and fired shots at them.

“When the vehicle stopped, the Nissan’s occupants alighted the vehicle and fired several shots again at the two in the bakkie,” she said.

The shooters then fled the scene.

Van Staad confirmed the victims were both taxi owners and were affiliated to the JBBSSW (Johannesburg, Benoni, Brakpan, Springs, Secunda and Witbank) Taxi Association.
