Bosom buddies busted

Man arrested after trying to bribe cops to release drug-dealing friend.

A man who tried to bribe his friend’s way out of trouble quickly found out money doesn’t solve all problems.

The 31-year-old was arrested by EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members on Sunday after he tried to pay officers to release his friend.

The man’s 34-year-old companion was arrested minutes earlier during a crime-prevention operation along Wenden Avenue.

He was found in possession of khat valued at R2 500.

“During the arrest, officers granted the suspect permission to call one of his friends, who stays nearby,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson.

A man with R3 390 in cash arrived soon afterwards.

“Labelling the money as a plan to free his friend, he was also handcuffed and both suspects were taken to the Brakpan Police Station,” added Mokheseing.

One was detained for possession of and dealing in illicit substances, while the other faces bribery charges.
