The City of Ekurhuleni recently promoted 19 firefighters to shift manager positions.

This team comprises eight women, who will lead different fire stations across the city.

All the promoted firefighters were given new rank markings and were welcomed to their new roles by Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) head of department Sam Sibande, Emergency Services divisional head Mhlengi Makhubalo, and operational manager Lifty Ngoepe.

Sibande highlighted the importance of being a dedicated and passionate firefighter to the newly appointed managers.

He urged them to keep their focus on their line of duty.

The new shift managers reiterated their commitment and dedication to their new role.

“We will hit the ground running and immediately add more value to the service,” said Puleng Xoki, one of the shift managers.

The promotions are in line with the city’s vision to empower its employees, especially women.

City manager Dr Imogen Mashazi recently called on women in uniform to take advantage of the city's vision of empowerment.

Mashazi was speaking at the recent Women In Uniform Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony that was held at the Alberton Civic Centre.

This was to honour women who walk the extra mile to serve the people of Ekurhuleni.
