CPF applauded for a sterling job

Most of the groups are always willing to assist, no matter the emergency.

The Democratic Alliance in Ekurhuleni has applauded the work done by the Community Policing Forum (CPF) and other community groups in the region.

According to Brandon Pretorius, DA councillor for Ward 97 in Brakpan, the town is fortunate to have multiple community safety groups who actively ensure the safety of residents.

He told the Herald that it is saddening to see how unappreciated these groups are.

“I was almost a victim of crime,” said Pretorius.

“I recently visited family friends in Rynfield, Benoni, when a vigilant member of the Benoni CPF spotted a man underneath my vehicle.

“Finding this rather peculiar, the CPF member decided to stay at the scene and called for backup.

“Within minutes other members of the Benoni CPF, together with the local SAPS, were on site.

“The Benoni CPF members do not know my vehicle or me but they did not think twice about helping me and saving my vehicle.

“This incident demonstrates the vital role the CPF fulfils in society, that of assisting law enforcement officials in the fight against crime.”

CPF members and other community safety groups are mostly voluntary and do not receive any financial compensation for their time and effort.

Most of the groups are always willing to assist, no matter the emergency.

“In my capacity as Ward 97 councillor, I would like to thank the Brakpan CPF, Afriforum Brakpan, Brakpan Radio Group and all other community forums and safety groups within Brakpan for always working together to keep us safe,” he said.

“I would also like to extend much appreciation and gratitude to all other groups and community members within the City of Ekurhuleni.

“I am calling on residents to be active participants of CPFs in their area.

“Active participation is not only patrolling the streets but also attending meetings, joining community WhatsApp groups, sharing information and being constantly vigilant.

“The DA in Ekurhuleni will continue to support CPFs within the city and we applaud them for the sterling job they are doing.”
