New Nyalas for EMPD

Ensure effective policing for crowd management.

The EMPD has beefed up its crowd-control measures with the acquisition of new Nyalas.

The Nyala is an agile and highly protected armoured personnel carrier used to ensure effective policing for crowd management while ensuring the safety of police officers in riot situations.

Nyalas are security vehicles designed for patrol and crowd-control management.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, the EMPD, in its quest to deal with violent public protest in a manner in line with the Constitution in a non-lethal fashion, ordered seven Nyalas.

“Thus far, the EMPD has taken delivery of five Nyalas with the balance of two to be delivered soon,” he said.

Nyalas are security vehicles designed for patrol and crowd-control management.

The vehicles have ballistic armouring as well as ballistic glass for the protection of occupants.

They are also fitted with a hydraulically operated front dozer blade capable of removing objects blockading roads and has roof-mounted cable cutters.
