Panne defeat the Dragons

Tries were scored by van Rensburg (two tries), Gary Woolls and Tau.

Brakpan Rugby Club’s first XV travelled to the Dragon’s Den in Pretoria on May 18 and finally got the long-awaited win that they had been threatening in recent weeks over Dragons Rugby Club.

The ‘Panne’ finally breathed some fire into their cross-border Volcano Trophy campaign with a 29-22 victory over their Pretorian opponents in Wolmer.

“It’s about time,” said Harry Nieuwenhuis, chairperson of Brakpan Rugby Club.

“We played well and as previously stated, the team is on the up.

“It was great game from Man of the Match Phillip Barwise, Tabu Tau, Ruan ‘Roekie’ van Rensburg and captain Reg Müller.

“Our line-outs and mauls again worked well and our midfield is operating the way it should.”

PJ Beukes converted three conversions and one penalty kick.

The team will enjoy a bye this weekend, but there will still be rugby at Bosman Stadium when the SuperSport Rugby Challenge Festival comes to town on May 26.
