Decision making lets the Panne down

A wrong call cost Panne the game.

Brakpan Rugby Club’s first XV let a good opportunity to bag a second win in three Valke Rugby Union Peregrine League matches slip when they went down 27-29 to North West University (NWU) Vaal at the Bosman Stadium on April 13.

The team were hoping to capitalise on some winning momentum from the Boksburg game at Bosman the weekend before where they ran out as 33-26 victors.

That was not to be as, according to club chairperson Harry Nieuwenhuis, “poor calls by our backline and poor kicking by our normally steady kicker PJ Beukes let us down.”

“We had a great opportunity to win in the last minute, but again a wrong call cost us the game.

“It is time for our players to step up and win games,” said the chairperson.

“They are running out of excuses and losing a game like this is not acceptable.

“We are not happy.”

Tries on the day were scored by Madota Dlamini, Rocky le Mason and Divan Brooderyk.

The rest of the points came from the boot of Beukes while Danny Keyser was the Man of the Match.

The ‘Panne’ will have to get things right and put smiles on the club management’s faces again in their next encounter in the Peregrine League when they welcome Vereeniging to the ‘House of Pain’ on Freedom Day, April 27.
