Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A radio was stolen from a car parked at the corner of Currey Street and Kingsway Avenue.

The vehicle’s ignition system was damaged.

* A white Mazda was stolen from an address along Kaapmuiden Avenue in Leachvile.

* Batteries were stolen from a truck in Nossob Road, Dalpark.

* A home along Rossouw Crescent, Minnebron, was burgled of jewellery and other valuables.

* Three men posing as police officers hijacked the driver of a brown Toyota Fortuner along Heidelberg Road (R23), near Labore.

The victim was pulled over around 6pm by the occupants of a white car with blue lights.

Once stopped, he was forced into the backseat of his vehicle at gunpoint and his hands were cable-tied.

He was driven to a secluded area and robbed of his cellphone, bank card and other belongings.

The victim was forced to tell the hijackers the pin number for his bank card.

Two of the hijackers drove off in his car, while the third was left to guard over him.

The victim was then told to start walking and to not look back.

After walking some distance, he was rescued by police officers patrolling the area.

• Saturday – A Brakpan policeman is recovering in hospital after he was stabbed and robbed  while off-duty.

The 35-year-old constable was with a group of friends during the early hours when they were stopped by two men while walking along Wenden Avenue.

The men robbed them of their cellphones and wallets at knifepoint.

The officer was rushed to the Life Dalview Hospital after he was stabbed in the neck and shoulder.

At the time of publication, the officer was in a stable condition.

An attempted murder docket has been opened.

* A green and white Jonway scooter was stolen from Elliot Road in Anzac.

* Cellphones, a TV, laptop, clothes and other household items were stolen during a break-in at a home along Prince George Avenue in Brenthurst.

* A home in Kiepersol Crescent in Dalpark was burgled of TV sets.

* Jewellery was stolen from a Voortrekker Road business.

* An attempt was made to steal a car parked at the corner of Kingsway Avenue and Park Street.

The would-be thief was caught in the act by the vehicle’s owner and quickly fled the scene.

The vehicle’s ignition system was damaged.

* Sheep, chickens and cellphones were stolen during an armed robbery at a plot along 12th Road in Withok Estates.

Four men had visited the premises at about 3pm to enquire about purchasing sheep.

They left but returned a short while later and held an employee at gunpoint.

• Sunday – Shoes, a TV and a DVD player were stolen from a home in Talbot Street, Brakpan North.

* A blue Toyota Etios was stolen from the corner of Boundary Road and Albert Street.

* TV sets, a laptop and an air compressor were stolen from a residence in Boabab Street, Dalpark.
