Ekurhuleni involves communities in city planning and related development matters

Workshops for Brakpan, Benoni and Springs will be held on November 20 and 21 at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre.

The City of Ekurhuleni is steaming ahead with the City Planning workshops to enlighten residents about city planning services, such as development application processes, handling of illegal use of land and building plan approvals.

Member of the Mayoral Committee for City Planning, Clr Masele Madihlaba, believes community involvement in spatial planning of the city is critical in all areas of development, not only in relation to human settlements.

“Though housing is one of crucial forms of development, it is not done in isolation,” he said.

“We need to consider schools, sports grounds, transport routes and shopping centres, etc.”

During the workshops, residents shared the development needs for their areas, which the city will consider for incorporation into its plans for the specific areas.

They were also updated on developments coming to their areas.

Workshops for Brakpan, Benoni and Springs will be held from 9am to 4pm on November 20 and 21 at the Brakpan Indoor Sports Centre.
