‘Panne’ bounce back in Peregrine League

On Saturday, the ‘Panne’ men were relentless and showed the skills, desire and confidence that has made them so revered in club rugby for years.

A five-week break has seemed to reignite the winning momentum for Brakpan Rugby Club’s first XV who returned to winning ways with a morale-boosting win over the Wolves of Kempton Park in the Valke Peregrine League on June 16 at Bosman Stadium.

Their hunt for a semi-final spot is now alive and kicking.

The first side cantered to a 56-0 drubbing of Kempton.

The Panne dotted down seven times on the day with hooker Jonathan Harding crossing the whitewash three times for a superb forward’s hat-trick.

The other tries were scored by winger Danie Hatting, eighth man and captain Reg Muller and PJ Beukes who scored a brace of tries.

Beukes also kicked well on the day, scoring the remainder of the points for Brakpan.

The second team, the ‘Lilywhites’, enjoyed victory too, winning 26-12.

The club’s u-21 side also tasted victory on the day.

They came out trumps in a closely fought 31-29 victory in the early game.

This weekend all the Brakpan teams will be in action against a formidable East Rand United opponent at Bosman Stadium.

The u-21s kick-off at 1.15pm, the Lilywhites at 2.30pm and the first teams clash at 4pm.

Spectators are encouraged to attend and show their support for the Panne sides.
