Locals conquer Comrades

Brakpan’s Carnival Runners had (according to results on comrades.com) nine finishers.

The 2018 Comrades Marathon 90.184km down run from Pietermaritzburg’s City Hall to the new finish at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium took place on June 10 and was, for most local runners, a successful one.

For others, however, finishing the world’s oldest and longest ultramarathon was not to be.

Petros Mbokazi was the first runner to reach the Promised Land at Moses Mabhida Stadium when he arrived at the finish line in eight hours, 15 minutes and 35 seconds.

The 47-year-old did enough to earn a Bill Rowan Medal (achieved for finishing the race in a time between seven-and-a-half hours and sub-nine hours).

He was followed in soon afterward by Zamani Eric Mbuyisa.

The 39-year-old road runner bagged a Bill Rowan Medal with a strong time of eight hours, 27 minutes and six seconds.

Lucky Seopela made it three Bill Rowan medals for the club with a time of eight hours, 44 minutes and 12 seconds.
