Drama-filled first round of SupaDrift

The first round of the SupaDrift Series kicked off at Carnival City last weekend.

A field of 23 drivers from all over South Africa flocked to the Brakpan venue to battle it out on the tarmac for the 2018 season.

There was no shortage of drama as a number of the competitors suffered mechanical issues on their cars before the event even got started.

Competitors were split into two different fields, Pro1 and Pro.

The Top 16 was well contested.

Jason Webb took the top qualifying place.

Cape Town’s Chris Long put on a brilliant performance during the Top 16, relegating his opponents to the pits.

He would eventually finish in third place.

East Rander Jim McFarlane came back from what could have been a disastrous situation after fitting a new engine the night before and was battling with his Achilles Tyres 350Z.

He would meet Webb in the final and would have to settle for second.

Webb took the victory and staked his claim for the 2018 SupaDrift Championship.
