Substation fire plunges Dalview into darkness

Load shedding will be conducted until the damaged transformer is repaired.

Parts of Dalview have been without power since yesterday (Tuesday) after a mini substation in the area caught alight.

According to DA councillor for ward 105 in Brakpan, Stefanie Ueckermann, the mini substation on the corner of Craigholm and Paul Kruger streets caught fire at around 4pm due to the long grass and weeds in the vicinity.

“After inspection it was confirmed that one of the transformers was damaged and will need to be repaired today (Wednesday),” she said.

“Last night the City of Ekurhuleni officials tried to connect all the houses to the single transformer that is still functional, but it could not handle the load.”

Ueckermann told the Herald that load shedding will be conducted until the damaged transformer is repaired.

She added that no restoration time has been given.
