Zama zamas die underground
Local police were called to an area along Main Reef Road on Saturday night where the bodies of three suspected illegal miners were found.
According to Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Capt Pearl van Staad, the deceased, all in their early 30s, are Mozambican nationals.
“They were suffocated by a possible gas explosion underground and their bodies were brought to the surface,” she said.
She added that no foul play is suspected and that an inquest docket has been registered.
