United beat Bedfordview

United Cricket Club’s Premier League One XI made it their second win in succession when they travelled to Bedfordview Cricket Club on February 25.

The team emerged victorious by four wickets and earned a valuable bonus point.

Bedfordview’s skipper won the toss and elected to bat first on the morning.

The hosts were wrapped up in the 46th over with the score 177 all out.

Opening bowler Rynard de Lange was excellent with figures of 3/27 in eight overs while the slow bowling of Eden Links (3/43 in 10 overs) and Branden Grutter (3/7 in 4.4 overs) did the rest.

With the bat, United skipper Justin Gamble (who scored 111 runs in the Saturday First League match the day before against Bedfordview), continued his good form, scoring 58 runs not out from 73 deliveries to guide his team home in 36.1 overs, despite six United wickets falling in the innings.

The win keeps United in the fourth position on the table.

Speaking after the win, Gamble said: “It was a good day out for us in the end.

“They elected to bat first and our bowling was well-disciplined which left them probably 50 runs short of a good total.

“Our batting was a bit shaky at times but we knew two partnerships of 50 or more would get us over the line.

“We showed some fight from being in a couple of tricky periods with the bat and ended up with a good bonus point win in the end.”

Gamble will hope that his team can carry their winning momentum into their clash with CBC Old Boys at Hosking Park on March 4.

The first ball is scheduled to be delivered at 10am.
