Ekurhuleni assesses water supply and demand

Field workers will conduct surveys in various areas.

Close to 500 field workers gathered at the Dinwiddie Hall in Germiston on Friday for Socio-Economic Impact Assessment Study training on how to conduct a water consumption survey.

In partnership with the National Department of Water and Sanitation, field workers will conduct surveys in various areas across Ekurhuleni until today (Monday).

Door-to-door visits will be conducted in 10 wards where residents are asked about their water supply demands and consumption.

The information collected will be used to assess water demand and to aid the city in its water infrastructure planning to ensure it is able to meet Ekurhuleni residents’ water demand.

“As a city, we encourage our residents to cooperate with the data collectors because the answers they give will assist us to service our customers better according to their water and sanitation needs,” said MMC for Water and Sanitation, Clr Tiiseteso Nketle.

Nketle also stressed the importance of using water sparingly.

“In spite of the fact that it has been raining, water evaporation is still a reality. Residents need to continue being water wise and use buckets when washing cars and refrain from irrigation activities between 7am and 5pm.”
