Panne looking for perfect start to 2018

The standards at Brakpan Rugby Club have always been high and after what the club would view as a poor season last year, they are confident that their senior teams can raise the bar in 2018.

“We have had a good pre-season since October last year and we will see if the guys are up for it in our first friendly for 2018 in Springs on Saturday,” said club chairman Harry Nieuwenhuis.

“Our new first team will be playing against Naka Bulle from the Bulls Union and the new Lilywhites will play Randfontein.

“Our coaching staff has worked really hard during this time, especially on the technical side of the game and we are looking forward to starting well.

“With our new coaches Braam Booysen, Jason de Kock, Sarel Korf and Ben Kruger and all the new players as well former ‘Panne’ players coming home like Shaun Botes, Franco Booysen, Wiaan Dippenaar and others, it will be exciting to see what the old and the new can put together on the field versus one of the Bulls’ top sides.

“The likes of Dewald Nagel, Henrico van Eck, Sybrand van der Merwe, Theo Becker, Pieter Nel, Gidion van Wyk, Tabu Tau, Danie Hattingh, Ruben Smith and new provincial players Reg Muller and Xander Cronje, should all make for a great mix of experience and youth.”

A host of club rugby matches will take place on February 10 at the Springs Rugby Club’s Rugby Day and promises to deliver thrilling encounters.

Brakpan’s first XV will play their match against Naka Bulle at 3pm on the A-field while the second XV, the Lilywhites, take on Randfontein at 4pm on the B-field.
