Station bids adieu to retiring officers

With 67 combined years of service, Col Evelyn Smith and Capt Gladys Thubagale will be hanging up their police uniforms

The Brakpan Police Station will bid farewell to two loyal members.

With 67 combined years of service, Col Evelyn Smith and Capt Gladys Thubagale will be hanging up their police uniforms on December 31.

Thubagale has 31 years of service under her belt, 29 of which were spent at the Tsakane Police Station.

The captain joined Brakpan in 2016 as the exhibit office commander.

She then became a floor manager of the client service centre (charge office).

Thubagale told the Herald that while she will miss her colleagues, she can’t wait to spend time with her family, especially her mother.

Smith joined the SAPS at the Sundra Police Station in Mpumulanga in 1981, and was later transferred to the Springs district as a financial clerk.

In 1996 she was appointed head of financial services at the SAPS East Rand area office.

Smith joined the local station as a support commander in 2008.

She thanked her husband and two children for supporting her throughout her policing career, and is looking forward to spending more time with them and her grandchildren.
