In the spotlight

Dalview resident Warren Styane (29) is the chairperson of the Sector Two Brakpan CPF. He is married to Meggan (26) and has a one-year-old son Nathan.

• For how long have you been involved with the Brakpan CPF?

In Benoni for about two years and in Brakpan for about three years.

• What made you join the CPF?

I’ve had many good experiences with the CPF and it just works for me.

• Why is the CPF important in the fight against crime?

The CPF works hand in hand with the SAPS and provides an opportunity for the community to get involved in the fight against crime.

• What do you think is the solution to South Africa’s crime problem?

My personal opinion is people must set aside their differences and start working together and doing something positive in the fight against crime.

Crime does not choose skin colour, it affects everyone – the difference is what you do about it.

How can I complain if I have not tried to do something about it?

• What is your occupation?

Production manager.

• Do you have any hobbies or special interests?

Braaing and spending time with family and friends.

• If you had the power to solve one and only one problem in the world, what would it be and why?

Corruption. At the end of the day we are all affected by it.

• What motivates you?

My family.

• How would you describe yourself?

Friendly, easy going and easy to approach.

• What is your favourite thing about Brakpan?

I’m still new to Brakpan.

• What do you see as the greatest strength of this community?

The willingness to help one another.

• What is your greatest concern for this community? What do you see as its greatest needs?

The community is too relaxed when it comes to crime and this makes us vulnerable.

We need to be alert of our surroundings at all times.

The community needs to stand as one and we need to put our differences aside and look out for each other, it doesn’t matter what group or organisation you belong to.

We are all in this together, whether you or I like it or not, we are affected by crime.

I firmly believe united we stand and divided we fall.
