Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday –  A business situated along Coert Steyberg Street, in Van Eck Park, was robbed by three armed men at around 3am.

The robbers overpowered two security guards on the premises and took a computer.

* Four homes were burgled.

The break-ins took place at addresses along Rangeview Road in Dalpark, Tweedy Road in Brenthurst, Stormberg Street in Leachville, and Derby Avenue.

Shoes, a DVD player, games console, TV, sound system and cellphones were stolen.

* A Brakpan man was robbed of his silver Volkswagen Polo by a hoax buyer.

The car was collected on behalf of the buyer after the victim received a payment notification from the bank.

The notification led the victim to believe the money was successfully deposited, but the money never cleared in his account.

* Bogus policemen hijacked the driver and occupants of a white Toyota Hilux bakkie at the corner of Rangeview Road and Airport Drive, near Mall@Carnival.

The victims were pulled over by the ‘cops’, who were travelling in a white car with a blue light, just after 11am.

After several hours, the victims were dropped off in a secluded area in Soweto.

• Saturday – A house robbery was reported at an address along Soetdoring Street, in Dalpark.

Six men gained access to the property at around 3am and threatened the home’s occupant at gunpoint.

After tying the victim up and taking his shoes, the robbers headed to the garage where they took various items and then fled.

* A pedestrian was robbed by an armed man at the corner of Bertram and Hewitt streets, in Brakpan North.

The victim was on his way home at 5.25am, when the robber pointed a gun at him and grabbed his bag.

The bag contained a cellphone, some cash, clothes and personal documents.

* A silver Volkswagen Jetta was stolen from the corner of Prince George Avenue and Kingsway Avenue.

The car was taken between 9.30am and 10.15am.

• Sunday – A bakkie parked at an address along Acton Street in Dalview was broken into.

Golf equipment and a bag containing clothes and shoes were stolen.

Other cases:

• Thursday – A business in Coert Steynberg Street, Van Eck Park, was burgled of a computer and printer.

* Two TVs were stolen from a home in Stoffberg Avenue.

* A car parked at an address along Hastings Avenue was broken into and a laptop was stolen.

Weekend arrests

The following arrests were made in Brakpan over the past weekend:

• Speeding: 5
• Tampering with/damaging infrastructure: 1
• Drunk driving: 3
• Theft: 1
• Possession of suspected stolen property: 1
• Shoplifting: 2
• Rape and assault (domestic violence): 1
