Car thieves may run, but they can’t hide from this team of Brakpan police officers.
In just under a month the local law enforcers have notched up 15 arrests and recovered four stolen vehicles and one hijacked vehicle.
Last week alone saw the team make seven arrests.
While patrolling the Dalview area on Tuesday afternoon, last week, the officers spotted a suspicious looking white Ford Ranger bakkie with four occupants.
“They followed the vehicle to the CBD where they pulled it over along Voortrekker Road,” said Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS.
“A search of the vehicle rendered balaclavas, gloves, a crowbar and hammer, as well as two sets of registration plates.
“It was also found the vehicle was reported stolen in Florida and had false plates and a false licence disc.”
The four occupants were arrested and can be linked to a number of cases within the Ekurhuleni area.
On Friday, last week, the officers added to their arrest tally and another three suspects were nabbed.
They also recovered a stolen white Hyundai i10.
“Patrolling along Devon Avenue, in Dalview, at about 10.45am, they noticed the Hyundai parked on the side of the road,” said Van Staad.
“The vehicle didn’t have registrations plates, so the members stopped and questioned the car’s three occupants.
“Further investigations revealed the car was reported stolen in Pretoria earlier this month.
“The three were arrested for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.”
The officers, Lieut-Col Korop Masethla, Sgt Ockert Venter, Const Bongani Mahlangu and Const Jacques Vivier, have been lauded by station management.
