A woman was raped in the presence of her one-year-old baby, in Vulcania, yesterday (Wednesday).
Brakpan SAPS were notified of the incident by the woman’s boyfriend, who was distraught when she arrived home in a dishevelled state, with blood streaming from her nose and not wearing any shoes or underwear.
Police were called to the couple’s home at around 6.50pm.
The victim told police she was attacked by a man who had followed her after asking for directions to a local company.
She had returned from a trip into town and alighted a taxi at the corner of Springs Road and 16th Road, when she was approached by the man.
The victim, who was carrying her baby on her back, gave the man directions and then made her way home.
She was walking along a footpath near First Road, when the man grabbed her and choked her.
He also bit her hand.
A struggle ensued and the victim lost consciousness.
Her baby’s crying roused her and she discovered she had been raped.
It was also found that she had been robbed of her cellphone and R200.
