Weekend crime round-up

Two burglaries took place along the same street.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A white Mazda 323 was stolen from the corner of Kitzinger Avenue and Prince George Avenue.

* Tyres were stolen from a car parked at an address along Davy Street, in Minnebron.

* A car parked along Perdeskoen Crescent, in Huntingdon, Brakpan North, was broken into, and a wallet was stolen.

A suspect was later arrested and the empty wallet was recovered.

* A toolbox, speakers, amplifiers and other sound equipment was stolen from a car parked in Hendrik Potgieter Road, Dalpark.

* Two burglaries took place along the same street in Helderwyk Estate.

Neighbouring properties along Bandolierskop Street were burgled of television sets and laptops.

The break-ins took place between 8pm and 11pm.

• Saturday – A gang of armed men held up security guards at a construction company in Rand Collieries.

The four guards were confronted by the men on the premises along Short Road just after midnight.

The guards were robbed of their personal belongings, such as cellphones and wallets, and then bound with cable ties.

The only guard who was armed was robbed of his firearm and ammunition.

The robbers, estimated to be about six men, helped themselves to tools, computers, and batteries and tyres from vehicles parked on the property.

* A black Volkswagen Polo was stolen from Tweedy Road, in Brenthurst.

• Sunday – A man was arrested at Sallies Hostel for attempted murder.

Police information reveals the man had strangled his girlfriend and threatened to kill her during a heated argument the night before, at about 9.30pm.

He also allegedly poured paraffin on his partner, but was unable to find matches with which to set her alight.

The man continued his assault on the woman the following morning, and beat her.

Police were called to the hostel, which is situated along 15th Road, and the man was detained.

* Two brass taps were stolen from a property along Gerrit Maritz Street, in Dalview.

* A case of robbery was opened after an iPhone, laptop, cash and other goods were stolen from a car parked along Satara Avenue, in Leachville.

The victim and two friends – one of whom resides at the address – had stopped at the property just before midnight.

While standing outside his vehicle, the victim noticed three men approaching.

The trio suddenly attacked the friends, and the victim was grabbed from behind and thrown on the ground.

During the ensuing chaos, the belongings were taken from the car, and the men fled the scene.
