The festive season is fast approaching and Brakpan police have appealed to residents to educate domestic employees on crime prevention and safety.
Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for the local SAPS, provided the following safety tips for residents to share with their domestic staff:
• Be vigilant while guarding someone’s else property.
• Do not leave a stranger unattended, even if the reason for the visit is known.
• Make sure that security gates are locked at all times.
• Verify with your employer before allowing anyone access.
• Have your employer’s contact numbers on speed dial.
• Never leave keys in the locks or near the door.
• Avoid leaving the front gate/garage doors open.
• Know all your emergency numbers.
“Inform the police of suspicious-looking people, vehicles or activities,” said van Staad.
“Stay safe and be vigilant during the festive season.”
